Kiran Phartiyal

A good knitter is a happy knitter!!

Kiran, the quiet one, has many happy childhood memories. Playing with friends and her 5 siblings, singing and laughing, but also doing her share of household chores. Born and raised in Kainchi, her family had fields and orchards and some cows. The land sustained the family and provided a comfortable life. All the children attended the local government school in Bhowali. The 9 kms to school was covered by bus or shared cab or by walking.

Kiran studied till Class 12, and was then wedded to Dayal, who resides in Pilkholi (a village closer to Ranikhet). Dayal runs a “kirana store”, a typical village store which sells everything from stationary, to groceries and vegetables. Firmly believing in education for all children, regardless of gender, Kiran now has a son who has completed his Class 12 exams, and a daughter in Class 10. She wants to support them for further education, which will make them independent.

When COVID 19 was ravaging the entire country, her friend and neighbor introduced Kiran to Dr Mala, and she joined the Needles To Say More family in October 2021. Though she is a new addition to the group, Kiran has worked hard to improve her knitting skills and come up to the standards set by the earlier, more experienced knitters. Starting with the signature reversible muffler, she has knitted exquisite cowls, baby wear and throws. There’s no looking back for Kiran now, as she smiles softly and admits that there’s a lot to learn, but she’s looking forward to knitting adventures in the future!

Happy and grateful to be a part of the NTSM family, she enjoys learning new skills and being able to earn too. “Every Wednesday, when we meet, time flies!!”, she says with a smile. She aims to be a part of NTSM for a long, long time.

Kiran lives in Pilkholi with her husband Dayal and 2 children.
