Savita Bisht

Savita grew up in a big joint family in a village close to Bikyasen. Their farm provided everything they required at home. There were cows and buffaloes too, so food was plentiful. Her uncles worked in Delhi and sent home a monthly stipend for the upkeep of the land. Savita was the eldest of 5 siblings. She remembers the pranks and mischief of childhood..plucking mangoes from other farms, sneaking away from angry and irate owners, that was better than school and studies!
After studying till Class 12, Savita married Biren Bisht in 2005, and moved to Biren’s village Khoyikiari, near Tota Aam, Ramnager. Her son was born in 2006, and her daughter arrived 3 years later. Since Biren was employed in the Judiciary, he got transferred regularly and the family lived in several places; Tota Aam, Srinagar, Tehri Garhwal, Almora and now, finally, Ranikhet.
While in Ramnagar, Savita would sew up some cut pieces for a tailor, and get paid for her labor. She joined Needles to Say More in Oct 2020 at the insistence of her husband, who had met Dr. Mala during his work. Like most village women, Savita knew basic knitting, but her desire to learn new things has made her into a strong team member who is always ready to knit any item in the studio. It is exciting and satisfying to be able to knit it all!
And she has learnt so many things about knitting now! After joining Needles to Say More, Savita knows that there is something called a “THROW”. That there is more to half and full sweaters – she discovered the “OVERBLOUSE”. And there are caps with layers, and caps with ear-muffs too!
Life has changed for the better…Savita has invested her earnings in multiple ways – making gold jewelry for herself, pitching in for the purchase of a piece of land and buying a vehicle for the family. What truly delights her, however, is that she has been able to indulge the foodie in her. She loves trying out different food items, and now she can splurge on anything she wants to eat – be it momos, chowmein, aloo chaat, ice cream and more!!
For Savita, WEDNESDAY is a different world altogether. Each one of them is free from stress, tension, challenges, and concerns. It is a day of chit-chatting, catching up, eating together, and laughing out loud. It is a day free from everything!!
